Apprentice - Main Kitchen

What are you going to do?
Our Main Kitchen is looking for an enthusiastic apprentice to join our team in September! The Main Kitchen is responsible for the preparation of composed dishes from fresh ingredients and products for several departments, such as the breakfast restaurant, Roomservice, the Lobby Bar and Banquet Operations. The Banquet Operations department of Hotel Okura Amsterdam is the biggest Banquet Operations department among five star hotels in the Netherlands and is market leader in banquet revenue and quality. Working in the Main Kitchen therefore means working on a high level. The Main Kitchen consists of twenty five employees, of which  one Executive Chef.
As apprentice you are jointly responsible for preparing a wide variety of dishes, carrying out mise and place activities and keeping the kitchen clean. Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Preparation of dishes according to standards, recipe and planning
  • Ensuring and guarding the quality of the end product
  • Making suggestions to the Chef
  • Contribute to the development of products and items for the menu
  • Carrying out mise en place activities
  • Ensuring good quality and freshness of ingredients
  • Ensuring good quality, taste, texture and colour of food items and making adjustments when necessary
  • Following hygiene instructions

Working days & working hours:
Work is carried out in shifts during 7 days a week. 
You work 4 days a week, 7,6 hours a day. You are also available to work on public holidays. 
The shifts you work depend on the department where you are scheduled and what events we have at the hotel.

Who are you?

  • You are guest oriented 
  • You have eye for detail 
  • You are flexible with regards to your work schedule 
  • You are a student at one of the (hotel)schools in the Netherlands 
  • You live in Amsterdam or surroundings

Main Kitchen
The Main Kitchen team is responsible for the daily preparation of the dishes for the breakfast restaurant, all events on the banqueting floor and for the staff restaurant. They have a total of 4 kitchens to ensure that they can prepare the finest and tastiest dishes for the external and internal guests.

Who are your colleagues?
The Main Kitchen team consists of 25 employees, managed by the Executive Chef Main Kitchen.
