Staff Departments
The staff departments consist of; IT, housekeeping, engineering, security, human resources, purchase, F&B office and executive office. Together with these departments you provide optimum support for the operational departments in order to ensure a smooth running of the processes at the front of the hotel. Only through good cooperation between the departments, we can work as efficiently as possible to exceed the expectations of our guests and make sure they experience the exquisite. Interview with Adriaan – Security Officer at Hotel Okura Amsterdam

Who are you and what is your role at Okura?
My name is Adriaan Hernandez, I’m 35 years old, and I’ve been working as a Security Officer at Hotel Okura Amsterdam for two years. In this role, I am responsible for the safety and security of our guests, team members, and visitors. No two days are alike – I alternate between providing first aid, fire safety coordination, VIP escorting, crowd control, parking management, and even investigative work.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The biggest challenge? Upholding the highest standards and responding professionally in unexpected situations. We welcome high-profile guests including politicians, celebrities, and CEOs of multinational companies. That means we work closely with the police, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, and government ministries. The work is fast-paced, diverse, and extremely enriching.
How would you describe the team and collaboration?
Our team is close-knit and highly professional. We communicate openly, work with trust, and always support each other. There’s plenty of room for humor, but we also know exactly when it’s time to be serious.
What development opportunities have you had?
Thanks to Okura, I had the opportunity to complete my vocational (MBO) security diploma – fully funded by the hotel. I was able to study while working and received full support from my team throughout the process. That opportunity to grow has made a huge difference in my career.
